Blogging Careers
The first weblog was introduced to the world in 1994 and in 1999, the term blog was coined and the medium really took off.‡ While it's impossible to know exactly how many blogs are in existence, it is known that the number of blogs grows exponentially every year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics combines blogging careers with careers of authors, writers and editors. Collectively, those positions are set to grow 15% by 2018.*
Did you know?
Although blogs originated in the late 1990s, the term "blog" wasn't present in Webster's Dictionary until 2004. The year it was entered, however, the word "blog" was named the Word of the Year. As time went on, blogs began to replace information one would normally find in a newsletter or in the mail.
As more companies become web-based, many have hired professional bloggers to help the company interact with customers and clients. Bloggers no longer are regulated to only writing freelance, rather now many are employed with these companies. This growth in popularity shows blogging careers will continue to rise.
